Midweek County Cups 04/12/18

Three of our clubs were involved in County Senior Cup competitions in midweek. There was success for two of them.
In the Nottinghamshire FA Senior Cup GEDLING MINERS WELFARE made significant progress at the expense of high-flying Central Midlands League North club Collingham by the odd goal of five in an exciting tie. Mason Coy and Jack Jepson gave the home side a good start with goals inside the first half hour. Then an own goal from Charlie Roberts on the hour put a different complexion on the tie. But a second goal from Mason Coy killed the game off.
In the Jelson Holmes Leicestershire & Rutland Senior Cup BARROW TOWN followed up their recent improved league form with an excellent 3-0 win away to United Counties League Premier side Lutterworth Athletic. Zak Ginvert opened the scoring for the Riversiders four minutes into the second half and then a late brace of goals from Dan Page put paid to any hopes the home side had of sending the game into a penalty shoot-out.
BELPER UNITED have already gained a reputation as giantkillers in the Derbyshire FA Senior Challenge Cup but their hopes of a semi-final appearance saw them paired with the tough chance of eliminating Northern Premier League Premier Division side Mickleover Sports at Station Road. Things were looking bright at the interval as the teams changes over at 1-1, Ben Gowing’s goal having given United great impetus and hope. But two goals in the second half from Sports saw off the brave fight in the competition this season from the East Midlands Counties League side.
