AROUND THE COUNTIES By STAN WILTON

Week ending 17th December 2011

Midweek saw all our teams elimated from the Derbyshire FA Senior Cup. GRAHAM STREET PRIMS came back from 4-0 down to 4-3 at Evo Stik Premier Mickleover Sports but it was not enough. Former Heanor Town striker Dan Williams got a brace for Central Midlands League Pinxton who won 3-2 at BLACKWELL MINERS WELFARE. And after a splendid first half in which their lead might have been greater than 2-1, HEANOR TOWN eventually went down 5-3 to a strong Chesterfield side at the b2netStadium in front of a crowd of 536.

HOLBROOK SPORTS successfully defended the only unbeaten home record in the League on Saturday with a narrow win over BARDON HILL. Lee Mitchell gave the Brookies a first half lead, extended by Paul Fisher after 68 minutes. Dean Partner pulled one back 15 minutes from the end but the Quarrymen couldn’t snatch a point

ANSTEY NOMADS extended their impressive unbeaten run with an odd goal of five victory over BLACKWELL MINERS WELFARE for whom it has been a bad week. Darren Taylor and Shane Gibbs from the spot gave Nomads an interval advantage. Dave Leak got one back six minutes after the break but a second from Shane Gibbs kept Anstey in charge. Jamie Spiers closed the gap four minutes from the end to make it a tense finale but Nomads held on.

BARROW TOWN were the day’s biggest winners thumping bottom club GREENWOOD MEADOWS 7-1. Carl Adams and Connor Hardy helped themselves to a brace each with Nial Premderville, Craig Nobel and Adam Page getting the others whilst Jack Hooper netted for the Meadows.

The other big winners were OADBY TOWN back on the league trail after their FA Vase exploits. Matt Moore claimed a hat trick in their 6-1 demolition of GEDLING MINERS WELFARE at Plains Road, with Callum Ross, Jon Stevenson and Danny Wilson adding the others. Lewis Capewell got the Gedling consolation.

Surprise of the day was THURNBY NIRVANA’s come-back at the Robinson Construction Bowl. They trailed to two Shane Newton goals inside the first ten minutes but goals from Alex Johnson before the break and another after with a winner from Brett Marvin on 59 minutes sent BORROWASH VICTORIA sliding to defeat.

A heavy pitch at IBSTOCK UNITED did not stop HEANOR TOWN from recording another good win on their travels. Josh Royce put them in the lead six minutes before the break and added a second just after the hour to make it five goals in three games. A late brace from Stef Frost made it a satisfactory 4-0 win for the Lions.

Also scoring four goals were GRAHAM STREET PRIMS. Alex Bolt and Lee Fell both scored inside the first eight minutes and Mike Williams added another on 37. Fell made it 4-0 seven minutes into the second half but two late goals from Liam Reed for BLABY & WHETSTONE ATHLETIC gave the visitors something to cheer.

RADCLIFFE OLYMPIC fell to another home defeat despite Ryan Smith cancelling out Elliott Wright’s 8th minute strike for ST ANDREWS. Rob Ryan put the visitors back in front but Jack Smith levelled again on 62 minutes. Rob Atkins got the visitors winner six minutes from the end.

Dave Warden’s lethal finish almost on the stroke of half-time gave RADFORD their third home victory of the season against visiting HOLWELL SPORTS.
