AROUND THE COUNTIES By STAN WILTON Week ending 29th February 2020 Once again the weather won the day with only one of the scheduled games taking place. And that saw SHIREBROOK TOWN continue with the improvement they have made over the last four weeks. It took a 25th minute Ryan Bates penalty to grab them three important points on their visit to CLIPSTONE for a game which saw an excellent crowd of 181 entertained, by far the best crowd of the season at the Lido Ground. In midweek, SHERWOOD COLLIERY took the opportunity to return to the top of the League with an excellent 3-1 win at INGLES. A brace of goals from Lewis Weaver, one in each half, greatly enhanced their cause with Carter Widdowson adding to the first half strike to give the visitors a 2-0 interval advantage. Michael Tuck got one back for Ingles in the 66th minute but it wasn’t enough to put lasting pressure on the Sherwood rearguard. Midweek also saw the League lose interest in the Nottinghamshire FA Senior Cup although GEDLING MINERS WELFARE made it difficult progress for Northern Premier League side Carlton Town taking the game into extra time after leading through Joshua Thornton’s 42nd minute goal. Carlton eventually won through to the semi-finals by winning the penalty shoot-out 5-4. EASTWOOD COMMUNITY were beaten 3-0 on their visit to Midland League front runners Newark Flowserve.
