League leaders NEWARK FLOWSERVE took another step towards a league and cup double in midweek when they beat RAINWORTH MINERS WELFARE 5-0 to set themselves up with a semi-final appearance in the Jenkins & Jenkins Sponsored League Cup competition. However, it wasn’t until the last five minutes that the score took on such a catastrophic appearance, for Flowserve only led by two Tyrell Shannon-Lewis goals for much of the game. The striker broke the deadlock in the sixth minute and added a second just after the half hour mark. It stayed like that until five minutes from the end when Jack Burdett added Flowserve’s third. Both Burdett and Jamie Lloyd added further goals in stoppage time at the end of the game to turn the scoreline into a nap hand.
The result set up the semi-finals to look like this:- RADFORD v NEWARK FLOWSERVE CLIFTON ALL WHITES v BELPER UNITED
The games will be played in midweek on neutral grounds.
The first of the Leicestershire & Rutland FA Jelson Senior Cup semi-finals was also staged on Tuesday night and BARROW TOWN lost out in their quest for an appearance in the Final to United Counties League side Melton Town by a 3-1 scoreline. Daniel Page in the 84th minute was the Riversiders scorer.
There was just one league game played and RADFORD triumphed in that encounter at Christchurch Meadow beating BELPER UNITED by the only goal of the game. But it was a close thing with the Nottingham side’s winner coming three minutes from the end from Ryan Smith.
