Midweek Round Up 11th & 12th September 2018

Not many midweek matches but plenty of goals. Table toppers GRAHAM STREET PRIMS must be wondering what hit them on their visit to SHERWOOD COLLIERY whose 7-1 win took them to the head of the pile with seven wins out of seven in their first season in the league. Prims were behind in the first minute to a Gareth Curtis strike and they never recovered. Jordan Harris after 15 minutes and Liam Theakstone ten minutes later gave Sherwood a comfortable interval advantage. A brace from Lewis Weaver midway through the second half increased the lead before George Lynam pulled one back. But Shaun Smith helped himself to two goals in stoppage time to set up the landslide scoreline.
A bumper crowd of 225, 98 more than watched the Sherwood Colliery game, saw NEWARK FLOWSERVE hammer BELPER UNITED putting six goals past them without reply. During the close season Flowserve said that the town of Newark deserved a good football team and asked the local football fraternity to back them with their support. Both seems to be happening. Rhys Lewis scored twice in the first half and Sam Agar increased the home advantage just before the hour mark. Solomon Miller got another in the 89th minute and, like Sherwood, Flowserve also scored twice in stoppage time through Stephen Kirkham and Daniel Meadows to set up the win.
In Tuesday’s other game WEST BRIDGFORD entertained HEANOR TOWN and in front of a crowd of 80 which included a good following from Heanor, they were in benevolent mood. And Jamie Sleigh was in the sort of form to take advantage of some sloppy defending. He helped himself to five of the Lions goals, in 3, 8, 22, 80 and 90 minutes and also set up the fourth for substitute Kyle Daley in the 47th minute.
Wednesday’s FA ordered FA Vase First Qualifying Round Replay saw INGLES progress against Melton Town from the United Counties League courtesy of an 80th minute goal from James Brooks.
