Midweek 7th & 8th August 2018

TEVERSAL continued to show why they are favourites for the title this season with their second win of the campaign in midweek at BORROWASH VICTORIA. Matt Wilkinson on 42 minutes and Joel Smith midway through the second half were on target for them leaving the Vics still looking for their first points of the season.
It was a similar case at CLIPSTONE where the home side, newcomers to the league this season, are still looking for their first win for 47 games having gone through the entire campaign last season in the Northern Counties East without a success. CLIFTON ALL WHITES were the visitors and came away with all three points with Mark Green and a brace from Daryll Thomas amongst the scorers. It was the second brace of the season for Thomas who is now the League’s joint leading goalscorer.
Not to be outdone, SHERWOOD COLLIERY also made it two wins from two games with a 3-0 victory over RADFORD in a game played at Blidworth Welfare due to ongoing pitch improvements at their own ground. Sherwood had not planned on their season starting quite so early but the runners-up in last season’s Central Midlands South Division got an unexpected promotion to the East Midlands Counties League when Holbrook Sports resigned over ground problems and had to find an alternate venue for this game. Goals from Nathan Clarke and two in the second half from Lewis Weaver kept their 100% start to the season going and left the League Cup holders still pointless at the wrong end of the early season table.
The first battle of the Miners Welfare’s of the season left KIMBERLEY MINERS WELFARE and RAINWORTH MINERS WELFARE sharing the points with both goals coming in a six minute spell around the interval. Jonathan Jebbison broke the deadlock for Kimberley five minutes before the break and Blessing Adeleye levelled within a minute of the start of the second half. Thus League newcomers Rainworth gained their first point of the season.
