The Midweek Action

BARDON HILL and AYLESTONE PARK are safely through to the next stage of the Jelson Holmes Leicestershire & Rutland FA Senior Cup. A first half hat-trick from Rich Hanslow and a second half brace from Andy Fell meant the end of the line for Leicestershire Senior League leaders Saffron Dynamo who could only manage one goal in reply to the home nap hand.
Park hosted Quorn Reserves. A strange draw to say the least. Although the visitors first team do ply their trade currently in the Premier Division of the United Counties League. No goals at the break then six for Aylestone’s happy strikers in the second half started by Mark Preston’s 61st minute effort. Ryan Calver, Justin Peace, Keaton Towers, Joshua Verity and Carlton Beardsmore were the others.
The Derbyshire FA Senior Cup got under way for three of our sides and two of them duly made progress to the Second Round. The only failures were STAPENHILL, but they were playing fellow East Midlands Counties Leaguers GRAHAM STREET PRIMS, who progressed by the odd goal of three.
SOUTH NORMANTON ATHLETIC made home advantage count by seeing off Northern Counties East League Division One club Shirebrook Town at Lees Lane. Shane Newton got the only goal of the game five minutes before the break.
The only league action of midweek saw ANSTEY NOMADS grab a point from their home game against ASHBY IVANHOE when Joe Hartropp levelled things up nine minutes from the end. Phil Gibson’s fourth minute goal had given third-placed Ivanhoe an early lead and the result keeps them in third place on goal difference.
