AROUND THE COUNTIES

Midweek 21/22 January
If it isn’t one hazard it’s another. Fog this time put paid to four more fixtures involving East Midlands Counties League club meaning more fixture rearranging.
But it is always nice to record a bit of joy for a struggling club and although it took one hundred and eleven minutes to get the goal that mattered Josh Brentnall put TEVERSAL through to the next stage of the Nottinghamshire FA Senior Cup with his extra time winner over Central Midlands League opposition Arnold Town who, apparently, played well above their current status. And if they can carry this cup success into league form then we should see Tevie climbing the table.
There was also success (at the seventh attempt) for another of our sides as INGLES defeated Midland League side Ashby Ivanhoe 3-1 to make progress in the Leicestershire & Rutland CFA Jelson Holmes Senior Cup. Kyle Fowkes put them in front in the first
minute and added another midway through the second half. Billy Blackshaw got their second in the 12th minute to give the Shepshed based side just the start they wanted.
Only one other game was completed and BORROWASH VICTORIA probably wish it hadn’t as they lost 4-0 at home to DUNKIIRK. Two penalties from Tyrell Shannon- Lewis in the tenth and 75th minutes helped the Boatmen to their success with Greg Tobin and Craig Meakin also finding the net.
The other league match scheduled between HEANOR TOWN and RADFORD failed to get beyond the half-time mark due to fog with the Lions leading 2-0 thanks to two early goals.
On the same night (Wednesday) the Nottinghamshire FA Senior Cup games between EASTWOOD COMMUNITY and Northern Counties East League side Ollerton Towm; HUCKNALL TOWN and GEDLING MINERS WELFARE and NEWARK TOWN and KIMBERLEY MINERS WELFARE were all abandoned due to fog.
