AROUND THE COUNTIES By STAN WILTON Saturday 21 December
Not much to report on again this week as seven of the nine games bit the dust (or should that be sunk in the water!!). Calendar-wise it might well have been the year’s shortest day but we were also short on football.
A crowd of 170 saw HUCKNALL TOWN move back to the top of the table with an emphatic 5-1 win over BARROW TOWN at Watnall Road. But it was the visitors who drew first blood when Theo Sjoberg put them ahead on twelve minutes. Enter Aaron Short to level things up on half an hour and then put Hucknall on top with his second goal of the game seven minutes later. Things began to look more emphatic six minutes into the second half when Joe Butler made it 3-1 and goals in the last five minutes of the game from Tom Hubbard and Adam Nelson completed their sixth home win of the season and sent them to the top of the table.
In the only other game to beat the weather CLIPSTONE also found themselves making good movement up the table as they recorded their third win of the season at The Lido. They moved up four places as a result of two late goals in the last ten minutes from Joshua Devereux and Ethan Knowles gave them a 2-0 success over a RADFORD side whose form this season can only be considered as inconsistent.
