AROUND THE COUNTIES
By STAN WILTON
Goals from Craig Meakin midway through the first half and Mitch Williams around the same time in the second period were responsible for taking CLIFTON ALL WHITES through to the semi finals of the Jenkins & Jenkins sponsored League Cup. Within a minute of Williams’ second goal on 70 minutes Jobe Shaw had pulled one back for SHERWOOD COLLIERY, but the All Whites held on in a hectic finish which warmed the spectators on a cold evening to join Belper United, holders Radford and the winners of Newark Flowserve/Rainworth Miners Welfare in the semi-finals.
The rest of this week’s games saw our teams involved in the Quarter Finals of the Nottinghamshire FA Senior Cup competition with league leaders SELSTON making it through to the next stage courtesy of a 2-0 home win over Central Midlands League Premier North high flyers Retford United. Klarke Greenham was responsible for both of the home goals, scoring in the seventh minute to give them the best possible start to the game, and then again nine minutes into the second half.
In the other game, CLIPSTONE bowed out to Central Midlands League Premier South leaders Hucknall Town by the narrowest of margins. Dave Leak scoring the only goal of the game for Hucknall in the 76th minute.
The League now has three clubs through to the Fifth Round of the Nottinghamshire FA Senior Cup in SELSTON, GEDLING MINERS WELFARE and KIMBERLEY MINERS WELFARE, and they join Hucknall Town from the Central Midlands League, Ollerton Town from the Northern Counties East League and Carlton Town, AFC Mansfield and Basforf United from the Northern Premier League in the last eight.
