AROUND THE COUNTIES

TEVERSAL saw their title hopes take something of a nose dive on Wednesday evening when they were beaten 4-0 at BIRSTALL UNITED. In what appears to have been an eventful encounter, the home side took the lead through Ryan Foster in the fourth minute, and this was followed by a second from Sam Moore on 22 minutes, this time from the penalty spot. Two goals inside a minute midway through the second half sealed Teversal’s fate when first Lewis Dodd found the net on 59 minutes and Aaron Pride put the ball into his own goal a minute later. Shortly afterwards Tevie’s Luke Fisher was sent off, and the visitors also had four players yellow carded.
It was all rather nail biting as well at Lenton Lane where DUNKIRK went two goals up through George Harrison (20) and Tim Berridge seven minutes later. But visitors STAPENHILL fought back and in the two minutes leading up to the interval levelled things up through Pete Martin and Tom Ellerton. The game turned back in favour of the Boatman in the last ten minutes with Daryll Thomas putting them back in front from the penalty spot and substitute Ben Gowing making the three points safe just two minutes later.
The League Cup tie between HOLWELL SPORTS and HOLBROOK SPORTS finally got under way with Holwell coming out winners by the odd goal of three. Kyle Reek put them ahead in the 18th minute and it stayed that way until thirteen minutes from the end when Rocester loanee Sebastian Szondi squared things up again. Extra time looked inevitable until Holwell were awarded a penalty three minutes from the end and Ben Betteridge put them into the next round.
Wednesday’s result gave some joy to bottom club RADCLIFFE OLYMPIC who completed their second win of the season courtesy of an 88th minute goal from substitute Tom Green at BORROWASH VICTORIA. The Vics had Oliver Wood sent off just after the hour and there were celebrations long into the night at Olympic at their three points!!!
