Five games beat the weather on the first white Saturday of the season, and most significant of all was the game at Plains Road where ANSTEY NOMADS’ 3-1 success over homesters GEDLING MINERS WELFARE took them up to second place in the table. The Nomads had to fight for the points though after Darren Taylor had given them an 18th minute lead. Former Dunkirk player Ross McCaughey levelled three minutes into the second half but a brace from Jack Lane turned the game in the visitors favour.
There were plenty of goals around in the games which did get the go ahead. DUNKIRK enjoyed a 6-0 success over HOLWELL SPORTS at Lenton Lane with five different scorers getting in on the act including an own goal from Ian Bitmead. Oliver Clark after just two minutes, George Harrison ten minutes later, the only goal two minutes before the break, and second half strikes from Adrian Lang and a brace from Phil Massingham made up the scoring.
HOLBROOK SPORTS sank to their second big defeat of the week conceding five without reply at AYLESTONE PARK to go with the nine Buxton put past them in midweek in the Derbyshire Senior Cup. Sam Carline opened the scoring just six minutes in and Ryan Foster and Cameron Laywood added further goals before the interval. Both these players completed their twosomes in the second half and Aylestone had the luxury of completing their big win with ten men after Jason Lee was sent off seventeen minutes from the end.
STAPENHILL saw off visitors WEST BRIDGFORD with a 4-1 win at Maple Grove. Niall Dawkins and Sam Grice put them two up at the break and late goals from Harry Austin and Lewis Campbell made up their total. Jaylee Hodgson getting the Bridgford goal in the 90th minute.
Four goals also at BIRSTALL UNITED where BLABY & WHETSTONE ATHLETIC were sent home with a 4-0 defeat to remember. Ashley Way, Tom Marriott and Dan Jelley put the home side in command before the break and Marriott added a second midway through the second half.
