Just two midweek games to report. BIRSTALL UNITED came back from being two goals down to win their game at STAPENHILL. After a goal-less first half Louis Briscoe and Niall Dawkins had put the home side two goals to the good inside two minutes of the second half getting underway. Aaron Large’s second goal in a week pegged one back for Birstall on the hour and two goals in three minutes from Mitch Williams and Ethan Bibby were enough to ensure that the points went back home with the visitors.
The fight-back by GEDLING MINERS WELFARE on the other hand was just not quite good enough. Two goals from Kai Tonge and one from Rikki Bates put home side BLABY & WHETSTONE ATHLETIC three up inside the first forty minutes. Errol Campbell got one back just before the break, but Rikki Bates’ second goal of the game in the 57th minute opened up the three goal gap once again. Dwayne Brown made it 4-2 on the hour and Steve Brett’s 88th minute goal set up a nervy conclusion but Blaby held on for the points.
In the Nottinghamshire FA Senior Cup Quarter Finals there was success for DUNKIRK who beat Northern Counties East League Premier side Clipstone on penalties after the game at Lenton Lane had ended in a 3-3 stalemate. Adrian Lang had scored for the Boatmen in the first half but it took two late goals from Tim Berridge and Adam Burton to take the game to penalties against a Clipstone side who have lost all 21 league games this season.
In the other game in this competition Ryan Smith’s lone goal was not enough for RADFORD and Carlton Town of the Northern Premier League romped home 6-1.
